Is the Earth in Danger?
Seven Wonders of Ukraine
Although the
Seven Wonders idea quite rightly drew attention to the buildings, landmarks and places of cultural
interest in Ukraine,
there is still more to tell About this country that some locals and the outside world should hear. For this reason, the public was asked to take
part in a second vote -this time focussing on places of natural beauty. They came up with seven truly spectacular sites. They are all worth a visit but, for now,
there are just two of them. Askania Nova is a nature reserve which
was established in 1898. With hundreds of species of grasses and flowers, this is a largely untouched area
of natural steppe. The area maintains a safe environment for the many species of birds, some of which
are quite rare. It is often the mammals, however, that eager tourists come to see. Among the
animals is Przewalski's horse, the only species of horse which can be
truly considered to be wild. Within the confines of the reserve,
there is a small town and several villages. Access is mainly by bus.
Dnistrovsky Canyon is another of the natural wonders, but here, you will find a
lot more evidence of human settlement. The canyon itself stretches is 250
kilometres of rocky terrain with an abundance of plants, birds and wildlife.
The steep sides of the canyon provide for breathtaking scenery at many points along its length. Walking along the River
Dniester, expect
to find caves and waterfalls, as well as villages boasting impressive landmarks such as churches, monasteries,
fortresses and castles. For the
adventurous, there are perfect conditions for rafting, so you can combine the challenge of the rapids with the beauty of the landscape.
1.According to the
writer, a second vote was held
A because people
were unhappy about the first vote.
B to focus on a
different aspect of Ukraine
C following
negative consequences of the first vote.
D to attract more
interest in the culture of Ukraine.
2.What does the
writer say about the seven natural wonders?
A Two of them
stand out as being really special.
B Not all of them
are in Ukraine.
C Only two of them
are really worthwhile.
D They all deserve
recognition.
3.At Askania
Nova...
A all tourists
have to travel around by bus.
B visitors have to
stay in the town or one of the
villages.
C tourists are
keen to see a unique kind of horse.
D visitors are
discouraged from touching anything,
4.The main
difference between the two places is that one of them...
A is in poor
condition.
B is expensive to
get to.
C does not have
any animals.
5.The writer suggests that
Dnistrovsky Canyon has
more to offer
people who are...
A bored with
historical landmarks.
B prepared to walk
its entire length.
C keen
birdwatchers.
D fond of exciting
modern pursuits

OUR FAVOURITE SEASONS
1 ___
Tom, 16
I definitely
love autumn best. For one thing, it’s the most colourful season of the year as
the leaves turn colour. Autumn is the best time for me to forget the pressures
of everyday life. The temperature is perfect for outdoor activities, which help
me calm down. I love going on long walks or cycling in the nearby forests to
enjoy the pleasant weather and the beautiful colours of nature.
2 ___
Annie, 17
I like the
summer best, simply because of school holidays, which give me a chance to get
away from my hometown. I really enjoy visiting other countries and getting to
know their history and culture. I can’t wait to leave my town, where it’s
baking hot in July and August to see new places I haven’t been to before. In
fact, that’s another reason why I try to spend as little time at home as
possible during the summer.
3 ___
Daria, 15
Some of the
people I know don’t like winter, but for me it’s the best time of the year. The
cold makes me feel so fresh and energetic and I’m really into winter sports,
such as skiing and snowboarding. I try to go away and do winter sports almost
every weekend, and also during the Christmas break and winter holidays. In
March while others
can’t wait to see the spring, I always wish the winter could stay with us a bit
longer.
4 ___
Mark, 16
I sort of like all the seasons, but spring is
definitely the best. We usually have harsh winters where I live, so when the
winter’s over, it’s great to see nature come back to life again. The days get
warmer and longer and this fills me with the optimism which I need to keep
going after the depressing winter days. Not to mention the fact that I start
making plans for the summer break

1. Get some information and look through the examples below.
Notes are short pieces of writing, which help you to remember
something. Due to the vast amount of information we receive, we have
to put it in the briefest possible form. Notes usually take the form of words or short phrases.
We have already stated that preparing well for the writing
assignment is a key element in a successful accomplishment of your task. Discussing and taking notes can be very helpful in the prewriting stage of the writing process.
Making notes can take various forms depending largely on
what type of a person you are. However, there are certain characteristics that are common to all forms of making notes:
1 use abbreviations, but make sure you can understand them later
2 use words like and, because but, and therefore to show
how ideas relate to each other
3 put each new idea on a new line
4 leave a lot of space so you can expand
your ideas later
DO NOT write complete sentences.
Notes must be SHORT
2.Read about some ways of making notes .Ex.2,p.245
3. Choose one of the topic sentences below and make notes.
Write a paragraph in 80-100 words. Keep in mind the steps for writing a good paragraph forzaz two.
1 Mathematics has always been my favourite subject at school.
2 Independent language learning has several advantages.
3 For many years my family has been celebrating Christmas in the
same way.
4 Read the information .
A summary is a short statement that gives only the main points and not the details of a longer text.
A well-written summary should be concise (only essential
information should be included), complete (all important information must be included) and clear, i.e. understandable to the reader. At last,a summary must be correct. It must convey the exact meaning of the original text.
A summary must be written in full sentences.
Don’t mix up paraphrasing and summarising! Paraphrasing is“rewriting” information from another source in your own words without changing its meaning. Since you have to include almost all the original information, a paraphrase is almost as long as the original. On the other hand, a summary includes only the essential information, which makes it much shorter than the original text.
However, changing the original meaning is not allowed in either a summary or a paraphrase.
5.Get ready for final semester test:
Read the text. For each question choose the answer (A, B, C or D) which you think fits best according to the text.
THE RESTAURANT
It was only a few minutes past nine when me and Mark left the cinema. ‘Fancy going to a restaurant for dinner, Sarah?’ he asked. ‘There’s one nearby that’s opened up recently. Frank told me it was really good and was really impressed by the opening event. I wanted to book a table, but I wasn’t sure you’d like to go’.
‘Thanks, but I’m not that hungry and I’m a bit tired’ I said. Not true. I was, and I wasn’t. Cooking is a big part of my life, and I’m really fussy about what I eat. Restaurants could hardly ever meet my expectations. On second thoughts, though, Frank was the only person I knew who was more demanding in this respect, so his good opinion of the place made me somewhat interested and I decided to visit the restaurant after all.
Mark led the way. We turned right, and a few hundred metres up the street, we saw a neon sign. The Cottage, it read. We went inside.
‘Are you sure it’s here?’ I asked. ‘This is a diner, not a restaurant’. I was looking at a long line of simple tables. ‘No, no, it’s OK. Frank told me they also run a diner. The restaurant’s in another part. Excuse me, how do we get through to the restaurant?’ he asked the woman at the bar. ‘Is there another entrance?’
She explained that the main entrance to the restaurant was at the other side of the building but that we could also get in there directly from the diner. Discouraged by the uninspiring design of the diner, I wasn’t expecting much of the restaurant, but, as we went through the door, I felt as if I’d travelled back in time into my grandma’s dining room in her country cottage. Someone had put a lot of effort into making the interior a cosy room, with a fireplace that created a real homely atmosphere.
A moment later, a waiter was beside us. He showed us to a nice table by the window and handed us the menu. I looked at it carefully, as I knew from experience that many restaurants make serious mistakes in their menu designs. They are often either too complicated, do not fit the general design of the restaurant or highlight the prices so there is no feeling of hospitality. Well, this one perfectly matched the cottage-like décor, with the meals being listed in an elegant way and the price given below in a discreet manner.
Meanwhile, the waiter was back. ‘Are you ready to order?’
1. Mark suggested having dinner in the new restaurant because
A. he had been there before.
B. heard a good opinion about it.
C. he had attended the opening of the restaurant.
D. he had made a reservation.
2. Sarah agreed to go to the restaurant
A. although she was very tired.
B. because she doesn’t like cooking herself.
C. because she was curious to see it.
D. although she wasn’t that hungry.
3. When they entered the diner,
A. Mark thought they were in the wrong place.
B. they both thought they’d made a mistake.
C. they were met by a waiter at the door.
D. Mark explained the situation to Sarah.
4. In Sarah’s opinion, the menu
A. was similar to those in other restaurants.
B. didn’t go with the restaurant design.
C. was nicely designed.
D. contained some mistakes.
5. Which of the following statements is true about Sarah’s attitude to restaurants in general?
A. She is often impressed by the food.
B. She doesn’t pay much attention to the design.
C. She often has low expectations.
D She seems to be a demanding customer.

B: As any other country of the world Ukraine has the body of judicial power, represented by the courts. The people of Ukraine have opportunity to directly participate in
realisation of justice through people’s assessors and jurors
A: In my country the President has rather limited power. What about your President?
B: According to the Ukrainian Constitution the President has many duties and rights besides representing our state. For example, he/she appoints the Prime-Minister and some other top officials, sets all-Ukrainian referendum in case of need, stops the power of the Verkhovna Rada under certain
circumstances, etc. But at the same time some of his/her actions must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada. So to some extent his power is limited.

The principal mining province is Alberta.
The provinces of Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, with their great forests, supply wood for building, furniture and the production of paper.
The most important manufactured product is motor vehicles. And the metal and chemical industries are highly developed, too.
As Canada has many lakes and rivers, the hydro-electric industry is highly developed; its main centers are in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

to put it in the briefest possible form. Notes usually take the form of words or short phrases.

The political system of the USA.
The United States is a constitutional republic. The nation operates as a presidential system also known as a congressional system. The federal government’s power is divided between three branches – the legislative, the executive and the judicial.
Legislative Branch. The legislative branch – the Congress – is made up of elected representatives from each of the 50 states. It is the only branch of U.S. government that can make federal laws, levy federal taxes, declare war, and put foreign treaties into effect. Members of the House of Representatives are elected to two-year terms. Each member represents a district in his or her home state. In all, there are 435 representatives in the House. Senators are elected to six-year terms. Each state has two senators, regardless of population. There are 100 senators. To become a law, a bill must pass both the House and the Senate. After the bill is introduced in either body, it is studied by one or more committees, amended, voted out of committee, and discussed in the chamber of the House or Senate. If passed by one body, it goes to the other for consideration. Once both bodies have passed the same version of a bill, it goes to the president for approval.
Executive Branch. The chief executive of the United States is the president, who together with the vice president is elected to a four-year term. As a result of a constitutional amendment that went into effect in 1951, a president may be elected to only two terms. Other than succeeding a president who dies or is disabled, the vice president's only official duty is presiding over the Senate. The vice president may vote in the Senate only to break a tie. The president's powers are formidable but not unlimited. As the chief formulator of national policy, the president proposes legislation to Congress. The president may veto any bill passed by Congress. The president is commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Within the executive branch, the president has broad powers to issue regulations and directives carrying out the work of the federal government's departments and agencies.
Judicial Branch. The judicial branch is headed by the U.S. Supreme Court, which is the only court specifically created by the Constitution. In addition, Congress has established 13 federal courts of appeals and, below them, about 95 federal district courts. The Supreme Court meets in Washington, D.C., and the other federal courts are located in cities throughout the United States. The Supreme Court consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices. With minor exceptions, cases come to the Supreme Court on appeal from lower federal or state courts.
Write true or false.
1. The United States is a constitutional monarchy.
2. After the bill is introduced in either body, it is studied by one or more committees, amended, voted out of committee, and discussed in the chamber of the House of Lords.

What an Olympics!
Posted by Helen Nolan on 10 September, 2012 at 21:25
It’s all over! I’ve been writing my blog from London every day during the Olympics and the Paralympics and this is my final post to look back on a wonderful couple of months. Here are some of the things that were the most memorable for me:
The Opening Ceremony
This set the scene for the Games with an amazing show featuring music, dancing, historical figures, fireworks and British humour. A huge number of volunteers practised for months to make everything perfect. The best moment was when the old lady in Buckingham Palace turned round and showed that she was neither a lookalike nor an actor but Her Majesty the Queen. The next best bit was when she jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond (although I think that actually was an actor!).
Team GB
I was very proud of our team as we kept on winning medals and finished in third position in the medal table, which is truly a great result for Great Britain. There were so many incredible sportsmen and women. The ones that stand out for me are Mo Farah, the Somalian-born Londoner who won the 10,000 and 5,000 metres with the whole stadium going crazy, Jessica Ennis, the popular super-athlete from Sheffield who won the heptathlon, and Nicola Adams who won the first female boxing medal in Olympic history for Britain.
The Olympic Stadium crowd
Although the crowd cheered on the British, there was lots of support for athletes of other nationalities too like the wonderful Usain Bolt, from Jamaica, who won the 100 and 200 metres sprint to become the fastest man alive. There was also Oscar Pistorius of South Africa who was the first disabled person to compete in the Olympics. He went on to win two gold medals and a silver in the Paralympics.
New sports
I have really enjoyed being able to watch sports which are not normally shown on television. Before the Olympics I didn’t expect to love watching judo or find myself screaming at the television during a game of wheelchair tennis, but I really got into them. I didn’t know anything about goalball before the Paralympics but it became one of my favourite sports.
The organisation and the atmosphere
It took seven years of planning and 70,000 volunteers to make everything go well. Many people have said that the organisation was not as perfect as that of the Beijing Games, but there was a much better atmosphere which spread out through the whole city. The volunteers were always friendly and helpful and Londoners even began talking to each other, and visitors, on the underground trains!I. When I was younger, I wasn't really into sports at all. I preferred reading books to running round a track. However, I've put on a bit of weight recently and I've been advised to get some exercise. So, I've started getting up earlier to do some jogging before school and I've also joined the tennis club in my town. Surprisingly, I'm really enjoying it!
-- 2
I'm a big fan of football. I have been really passionate about sport, since I started going to matches with my dad when I was about five, I've always wanted to be a professional footballer. In the beginning, I just wanted to be on the pitch with everyone shouting out my name, but now I can see all the things that come with the fame -the cars, the big houses and so on. You can get all this by doing something you love. I'm a good striker and I've won a lot of trophies with the school team. It's hard work and a lot of training, but I think it will be worth it. I think I could get to the top.
--3
I belong to a tennis club and I practise every day. I enter a lot of competitions and it costs my parents a lot of money! I love my sport and it's a great way to keep fit and healthy, but more than that, it's a fantastic way to make friends. I have some really good mates from the club and we get together all the time - and give each other support at our competitions. I've also got to know people from other towns and clubs through competitions, which is great. I'd be lost without tennis.
--4
I started running when I was about ten years old and, at the moment, I'm a county junior champion at 100 metres. I've always enjoyed competition. In class, I try to be top, and even with my friends, I like to have the latest clothes or the most recent smartphone! So in sport, all that matters is coming first-which I nearly always do! If I lose too often, then I'll give up and take up something new instead. I really admire top sports professionals-they've beaten everyone to get to that position.
3 Read the following text. Fill in the gaps(1 -5) with the correct answer(A-C) to obtain a logical and grammatically correct text.
People keep inventing new sports all the time. Recently, there has been a tendency to come up with the so-called hybrid sports where one sport is a combination of at least two other sports. The sport looked so interesting that the Dutch artist Iepe Rubingh (1)a decision to hold the first chess boxing contest in 2003. Since then the discipline has gained a lot of popularity in many countries, and chess boxing events have taken (2)from Los Angeles, USA, to Calcutta, India. The most amazing thing is that chess boxers must be skilled in the two completely different sports. Boxing has always been a sport for physically strong people, while chess is a sport for intellectually strong individuals. However, chess boxers(3)in having the two abilities in equal measure. A full match has eleven rounds: six rounds of chess and five rounds of boxing, with a minute break between each round of chess and boxing. A competitor(4)win the match by knockout or by checkmate as it is in real boxing or chess. Nowadays the popularity of the sport (5)fast. Chess boxers have their own clubs and organisation and film-makers make films about this very unusual sport.

Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous
1.Study the information:
Past Perfect
Past Perfect
Слово | Переклад | ||
already | вже | ||
after | після | ||
yet | ще не | ||
never | ніколи | ||
Past Perfect
- speak -
- teach -
- eat -
- tell -
- begin -
- I lost the key that he (give) to me.

Past Perfect Continuous
Формула:Іменник + had + not + been + дієслово з закінченням -ingДопоміжне дієслово had та частка not можуть зливатися і утворювати hadn’t. Past Perfect Continuous
д.) since з (того часу) before перед (речення в Past Perfect Continuous ставиться перед цим словом) then тоді because тому що, оскільки Випадки, в яких вживається Past Perfect Continuous

- How to describe a painting?
- You have been recently appointed as a guide at an international art museum. Your job profile involves guiding the visitors to the different parts of the museum and explaining the paintings and other art works. How will you utilize your English speaking skills to accurately describe the paintings in detail? Using English as a form of communication will showcase your conversation skills and make a good impression on the visitors.
Things To Remember When Describing A Painting:
1. Have all information
It is important to have all the information about a painting. There is nothing more embarrassing than to stammer around for answers. When you have all the information regarding a painting, you will be in a good position to solve any doubts the viewers may have. It will involve a bit of a research which will improve your English comprehension skills. Even if you don't have all the information, redirect the visitors to the appropriate sources.
2. Engaging conversation
Never keep your description one sided. Ask interesting questions to them and get them engaged in the conversation. You can only do this when your English conversational skills are up to the mark. Use grammatically correct sentences while communicating.Sample Conversation While Describing A Painting Picture:
Situation: You are taking the visitors through the museum when they come across a Vincent Van Gogh painting.
You: Ladies and gentlemen, here is the famous Van Gogh painting.
Visitor 1: Wow! It's so beautiful! What is it called?
You: It's called the 'Cafe Terrace at Night' and was painted in 1888.
Visitor 2: Can you describe the painting in detail?
You: Sure! This painting is of his favorite coffee house. As you can see, the backdrop is of a starry night and there are visitors in the coffee shop. It clearly depicts the contemporary environment. The dress code at that time was black and Paris was just being electrified.
Visitors 3: Why is there no sign of Van Gogh?
You: This is the one painting where he did not sign his signature. Instead, as you can see on the bottom right corner, he has just written the words 'Café Terrace'.
Visitor 4: How do we know what you are saying is true?
You: You can check our pamphlet at the end of the tour listing the literary sources backing up our description.
Visitor 1: This really is a great painting. What will be its price?
You: At the current market rate, it will fetch around $25 million.
Visitor 2: Whoa! That is a fortune. The security here must be tight.
You: Yes, it is. The painting glass frame is virtually impregnable. Now, if you don't have any further questions, let's move on to the next painting.
The above sample shows how to do justice to a painting. Impress your listeners with your artistic knowledge and your English communication skills. You will get good additional knowledge about the artworks if you have a passion to build a great career. Improve your spoken English skills for great and influential communication. - How to describe a painting Watch some videos to learn how describe a piece of art https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMU0hZKPHFA

- The Basics of Effective Essay Writing
- by Becton Loveless
As you progress through school, you'll be required to write essays. And the farther along in school you get, the more complex and demanding the essays will become. It's important that you learn early on how to write effective essays that communicate clearly and accomplish specific objectives. An essay is a written composition where you express a specific idea and then support it with facts, statements, analysis and explanations. The basic format for an essay is known as the five paragraph essay – but an essay may have as many paragraphs as needed. A five paragraph essay contains five paragraphs. However, the essay itself consists of three sections: an introduction, a body and a conclusion.Below we'll explore the basics of writing an essay.Select a Topic
When you first start writing essays in school, it's not uncommon to have a topic assigned to you. However, as you progress in grade level, you'll increasingly be given the opportunity to choose the topic of your essays. When selecting a topic for your essay, you'll want to make sure your topic supports the type of paper you're expected to write. If you're expected to produce a paper that is a general overview, then a general topic will suffice. However, if you're expected to write a specific analysis, then you're topic should be fairly specific. For example, lets assume the objective of your essay is to write an overview. Then the topic "RUSSIA" would be suitable. However, if the objective or your essay is to write a specific analysis, then "RUSSIA" would be far too general a topic. You'll need to narrow down your topic to something like "Russian Politics: Past, Present and Future" or "Racial Diversity in the Former USSR".If you're expected to choose your own topic, then the first step is to define the purpose of your essay. Is your purpose to persuade? To explain how to accomplish something? Or to education about a person, place, thing or idea? The topic you choose needs to support the purpose of your essay. The purpose of your essay is defined by the type of paper you're writing. There are three basic types of essay papers:- Analytical - An analytical essay paper breaks down an idea or issue into its its key components. It evaluates the issue or idea by presenting analysis of the breakdown and/or components to the the reader.
- Expository - Also known as explanatory essays, expositories provide explanations of something.
- Argumentative - These type of essays, also known as persuasive essays, make a specific claim about a topic and then provide evidence and arguments to support the claim. The claim set forth in argumentative (persuasive) essays may be an opinion, an evaluation, an interpretation, cause-effect statement or a policy proposal. The purpose of argumentative essays is to convince or persuade the reader that a claim is valid.
Once you have defined the purpose of your essay, it's time to brainstorm. Don't choose just one topic right of the bat. Take some time to consider, contrast and weight your options. Get out a piece of paper and make a list of all the different topics that fit the purpose of your essay. Once they're all down on paper, start by eliminating those topics that are difficult or not as relevant as others topics. Also, get rid of those topics that are too challenging or that you're just not that interested in. Pretty soon you will have whittled your list down to just a few topics and then you can make a final choice.Organize Your Ideas Using a Diagram or Outline
Some students get scared to start writing. They want to make sure they have all their thoughts organized in their head before they put anything down on paper. Creating a diagram or outline allows you to put pen to paper and start organizing your ideas. Don't worry or agonize over organization at this point, just create a moderately organized format for your information.Whether you use a diagram or outline doesn't really matter. Some people prefer and work better with the flowing structure of a diagram. Others like the rigid and logical structure of an outline. Don't fret, once you get started, you can always change formats if the format you chose isn't working out for you.DiagramThe following are useful steps for developing a diagram to organize ideas for your essay.- Get started by drawing a circle in the middle of a paper just big enough to write in.
- Inside your circle, write your essay topic.
- Now draw three or four lines out from your circle.
- At the end of each of lines, draw another circle just slightly smaller than the circle in the middle of the page.
- In each smaller circle, write a main idea about your topic, or point you want to make. If this is persuasive (argumentative) essay, then write down your arguments. If the object of the essay is to explain a process (expository), then write down a step in each circle. If your essay is intended to be informative or explain (analytical), write the major categories into which information can be divided.
- Now draw three more lines out from each circle containing a main idea.
- At the end of each of these lines, draw another circle.
- Finally, in each of these circles write down facts or information that help support the main idea.
Outline
The following are useful steps for developing an outline to organize ideas for your essay.- Take a page of paper and write your topic at the top.
- Now, down the left side of the page, under the topic, write Roman numerals I, II, and III, sequentially.
- Next to each Roman numeral, write the main points, or ideas, about your essay topic. If this is persuasive essay, write your arguments. If this an essay to inform, write the major categories into which information will be divided. If the purpose of your essay is to explain a process, write down each step of the process.
- Next, under each Roman numeral, write A, B, and C down the left hand side of the page.
- Finally, next to each letter, under each Roman numeral, write the information and/or facts that support the main point or idea.
Develop a Thesis Statement
Once you have an idea for the basic structure of your essay, and what information you're going to present in your essay, it's time to develop your thesis statement. A thesis statement states or outlines what you intend to prove in your essay. A good thesis statement should be clear, concise, specific, and takes a position. The word "thesis" just sounds intimidating to most students, but a thesis is actually quite simple. A thesis statement (1) tells the reader what the essay is about and (2) what points you'll be making. If you've already selected an essay topic, and developed an outline or diagram, you now can decide what points you want to communicate through your essay.A thesis statement has two key components. The first component is the topic, and the second is the point(s) of the essay. The following is an example of an expository (explanatory) thesis statement:The life of a child raised in Pena Blanca is characterized by little playing, a lot of hard work and extreme poverty.
An example of an analytical thesis statement:An analysis of the loan application process for citizens of third world countries reveals one major obstacle: applicants must already have money in order to qualify for a loan.An example of an argumentative (persuasive) thesis statement:Instead of sending tax money overseas to buoy struggling governments and economies, U.S. residents should be offered tax incentives for donating to companies that provide micro loans directly to the citizens of third world countries.Once you're done developing a thesis statement that supports the type of essay your writing and the purpose of the essay, you're ready to get started on your introduction.Introduction
The introduction is the first paragraph of the essay. It introduces the reader to the idea that the essay will address. It is also intended to capture the reader's attention and interest. The first sentence of the introduction paragraph should be as captivating and interesting as possible. The sentences that follow should clarify your opening statement. Conclude the introduction paragraph with your thesis statement.Body
The body of your essay is where you explain, describe or argue the topic you've chosen. Each of the main ideas you included in your outline or diagram will become of the body paragraphs. If you wrote down four main ideas in your outline or diagram, then you'll have four body paragraphs. Each paragraph will address one main idea that supports the thesis statement. The first paragraph of the body should put forth your strongest argument to support your thesis. Start the paragraph out by stating the supporting idea. Then follow up with additional sentences that contain supporting information, facts, evidence or examples – as shown in your diagram or outline. The concluding sentence should sum up what you've discussed in the paragraph. The second body paragraph will follow the same format as the first body paragraph. This paragraph should put forth your second strongest argument supporting your thesis statement. Likewise, the third and fourth body paragraphs, like the first and second, will contain your third and fourth strongest arguments supporting your thesis statement. Again, the last sentence of both the third and fourth paragraphs should sum up what you've discussed in each paragraph and indicate to the reader that the paragraph contains the final supporting argument. Conclusion
The final paragraph of the essay provides the conclusion. This paragraph should should restate your thesis statement using slightly different wording than employed in your introduction. The paragraph should summarize the arguments presented in the body of the essay. The last sentence in the conclusion paragraph should communicate that your essay has come to and end. Your concluding paragraph should communicate to the reader that you're confident that you've proven the idea as set forth in your thesis statement.Having the ability to write effective essays will become increasingly important as you progress through high school and into college. If you'll internalize the format presented above, you'll develop the ability to write clear and complete.- Lesson 5

Future tenses
There are several different ways in English that you can talk about the future. This page is an introduction to the most important ones:
- Predictions/statements of fact
- Intentions
- Arrangements
- Scheduled events
- Lunch break today will be 10 minutes longer than usual.
- In the year 2050 all students will have their own computers in school.
- If you help me, I will help you.
- Do you think she will come soon?
- You won't pass your exams if you don't start working harder.
- I know my parents won't let me go to the party.
- Will it snow for Christmas?
- I know she's sick, but will she be back in school tomorrow?
Predictions/statements of facts
The auxiliary verb going to is used in talking about intentions. (An intention is a plan for the future that you have already thought about.)
- We're going to buy a new car next month.
- I'm going to work in a bank when I leave school.
- In the new year I'm going to stop eating so much junk.
- He's not going to go to the dance. He's got too much work.
- I'm not going to watch TV until my science project is finished.
- Are you going to play basketball after school?
- What are you going to have for lunch today?
Note: going to is often used in the past tense to talk about an unfulfilled intention. Examples: I was going to study for my grammar test, but I had no time. / He was going to call you, but he couldn't find his mobile phone. / My grandmother was going to visit us, but she fell and broke her arm.
Arrangements
The present continuous tense is used in talking about arrangements. (An arrangement is is a plan for the future that you have already thought about and discussed with someone else.)
- I'm meeting my mother at the airport tomorrow.
- Our grandparents are visiting us this Christmas.
- Sorry, I can't stay after school today; I'm playing tennis with Jun-Sik.
- My sister's going to the dentist tomorrow.
- I'm not returning home for the holidays, so I can come to your party after all!
- Are you doing anything on Sunday morning?
- Do you know if he is going to the dance with Maiko next week?
Scheduled Events
The present simple tense is usually used to refer to future events that are scheduled (and outside of our control).
- Hurry up! The train departs in 10 minutes.
- I leave Frankfurt at 5 o'clock in the morning and arrive in New York at midnight the next day.
- She has an appointment with the headmaster after school today.
- There's no need to hurry. The train doesn't leave for another 30 minutes.
- When does the meeting begin?
This is a very difficult aspect of English grammar. Learners who want a deeper understanding should consult a good grammar reference such as Swan's Practical English Usage.

Sport is probably as old as the humanity itself. It has been developing with the developing and growt of the mankind. To my mind we can hardly overestimate the meaning of sport in our life and day-to-day activities, because it’s main purpose is to bring up the harmoniously developed generation – the generation of strong and healthy people. Sport makes our bodies strong, quickens our reaction, and shapes the wits. It also prevents us from getting too fat, gives us so valuable practice in making eyes, brain and muscles work together and makes us more self-organized and better disciplined.
I’m absolutely sure that doing sports is the best way to keep fit. There is always a kind of sport which will suit you and there are many different kinds to choose from. I’m sure you know an axiom: “Sport makes people healthy”. No doubt, that’s true..
